Second Test of Saturn V Moon Rocket

from the CBS Evening News, April 4, 1968.

In 1968, America was still trying to get back on track for John F. Kennedy's timetable "... to land a man on the moon before this decade is out..." after the Apollo fire in the beginning of 1967, which had killed Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee. The first Apollo mission, Apollo 7 was still 6 months away, and the first successful use of the Saturn V waited until Apollo 8 which put Graham Lovell, Frank Borman, and Bill Anders around the moon for Christmas 1968 -- finally a positive achievement to end this tumultuous year.
